Five Kilkenny members, Graham Nugent, Harry Duggan, Mark Power, Paul O’Hara and Michael Buggy headed to Lahinch last week for the South of Ireland Championship.
The two round strokeplay qualifiers was reduced to one due to the inclement weather. Mark and Harry qualified comfortably for the top 64 matchplay, but the otehrs didn't make the cut.
Mark Power overame Marc Boucher, winning his opening match 2 and1. Harry Duggan suffered a one hole defeats to Jack Blake, The Island.
Mark continued his good form with comfortable wins over Stephen Watts, Cairndhu, Andrew McCormack, Castletroy and Alan Fahy, Dun Laoghaire.
In the semi-final he came up short, suffering a 5 and 4 defeat to the experienced Caolan Rafferty, who went on to win his first Championship.
TEAM NAMED: The GUI have confirmed the Ireland team for the boys Home Internationals at Royal Dornoch in Scotland from August 7 to 9.
Six of the 11 players were automatic selections based on their position in the Bridgestone boys international Order of Merit or the Tom Montgomery Order of Merit.
Mark Power (Kilkenny), Aaron Marshall (Lisburn) and David Kitt (Athenry) secured their places via the Bridgestone Boys Order of Merit, while Max Kennedy (Royal Dublin), Luke O’Neill (Connemara) and Tom McKibbin (Holywood) earned their places through the Tom Montgomery Order of Merit.
MIXED GOLF: The mixed Social Golf will continue on Friday. Sign in at 5.30pm for shotgun start at 6pm.
FUND-RAISER: The annual, Open Day fund-raiser for the Junior/Juvenile Club wil be on Wednesday, August 8. The four person team event will cost €15 per person.
Funds raised are required to continue the coaching and development of young players.

CLASSIC: The Management Committee have decided to hold a Club Classic on the weekend of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 1, 2 and 3.
The format will be a four person team (any combination) and will cost €120.
Midland Travel, Tullamore will sponsor the first prize five nights hotel accommodation plus three rounds of golf in the Algarve for four people. The prize must be availed of during April 2019.
There will be many other wonderful golf break prizes on offer, as well as a seniors team prize, a ladies team prize plus a special Monday team prize.
There will also be a visitors team prize..

GOLF TROLLIES: The Course and Clubhouse committees are carrying out a general ‘Tidy and Clean Up’ around the clubhouse. All members trollies will be moved into the bungalow where clubs are also stored.
The existing area being used for trollies will be required to house the fleet of club buggies. Members who have trollies stored in the shed should identify them by attaching a tag with their name on it.
The club will move them when suitable shelving is in place in the house.
COURSE NEWS: There’s will be no divot repair session next Monday (Bank Holiday).
The normal sessions will resume the following week.

At the weekend Callan golf club President Martin Maher held his competition on a course that was in pristine condition.
There was a great turn out and the scoring was hot. The top three finishers all had the same score which always makes the situation interesting.
