Kilkenny greyhounds: it was celebration time for Campion

There was a good crowd at Kilkenny Track on Friday night as a benefit meeting was held for the St Mary’s Cathedral Restoration fund.
It was a good night for trainer Paraic Campion as he landed a double. Boozed Trigger took the main race of the night, The Danny Norton Memorial a5 Final, for the in-form trainer and the owner Marie Campion.
After a level beginning, it was Boozed Trigger who led up from trap five. Boozed Trigger got the bend before easing two lengths clear of Blue Mona heading down the back straight. The son of Melodys Royal and Boozed Lorraine extended his lead to three lengths into the third and that paved the way for victory. Boozed Trigger saw off Blue Mona by two and a half lengths in a time of 29.38.
Clearly was the other winner of the night for Paraic Campion while Fennis Buzz and Ratchies Kiev also impressed in victory.
The first race, an a5 525, was level early on before Hello Pebbles asserted to lead around the opening bend. Hello Pebbles moved three lengths clear into the back straight as Flomur Amy gave chase.
The challenger was within a length turning for home and she closed further between the last two bends. It was tight up the home stretch with Hello Pebbles and Flomur Amy crossing the line together. The verdict went to the Paul Hennessy-trained Flomur Pebbles by a short head in 29.57.
In the a5 contest Acres Hill led up on the outer. The favourite Ratchies Kiev got a dream run on the rails to move up and sit two lengths adrift of Ratchies Kiev turning out of the second bend.
Ratchies Kiev took over down the far side before racing clear for victory. Clomantagh Comet came through for second, but Ratchies Kiev was home and hosed by five lengths in a career best 29.33.
The third race, another 525, was level early doors. Manvers Melody soon took over and powered clear from trap six. The early paced bitch streaked seven lengths clear into the second with Moi Little Hero in behind.
The lead was down to five lengths into the third as the leader began to run on empty.
Manvers Melody had no more to give up the home straight and Moi Little, trained by Margaret Fortune was on hand to take the victory. Moi Little Hero held off the running on Bogger Bonnie by three quarters of a length in 29.96.
There was a three-way go for the early supremacy in the fourth race, an a4 525. It was Clearly who got the bend before moving a length clear into the back straight. Clearly held that length lead over Come On Irene into the third and she kept finding for pressure.
Bull Run Petal came with a late surge but it made no difference as the Paraic Campion-trained Clearly scored by two lengths in 29.34.
Arcturus Legacy and Downtomattys began well and went smartly to the bend in the a3 525. The former got the bend on the inner and edged a length clear into the second. Arcturus Legacy took charge of the race into the third as he shot four lengths clear.
There was no stopping Arcturus Legacy as he came home four lengths clear of Lemon Camila in 29.46.
With bumping from middle to outer early on, Tongariro was in the perfect position to lead up on the rails in the a3/a4 525.
After getting to the first in front, Tongariro moved a length clear of Bull Run Boots into the back stretch.
Tongariro, trained by Michael Donnelly, extended his lead to three lengths into the third and that proved key as Bull Rn Boots came back for more. In the end, it was Tongariro who took the win by a length in a time of 29.32.
Ran Ragged
Boherna Drake bounced out and ran his rivals ragged for much of the a3 525. Showing plenty of early dash, Boherna Drake was well clear into the first, going on to lead by six lengths at the second bend.
The lead was up to eight lengths by the third and the Brendan Everard trained Boherna Drake looked in complete control. However, Obama Country came home with his usual rattle while Boherna Drake began to tire.
The gap between the pair closed dramatically but Boherna Drake held on to win by a length in 29.41.
Fennis Buzz returned to the track for the first time since December and made light of the absence in the a1 525. Fennis Buzz was in front early on and led Artistic Pete into the first bend.
After railing well, Fennis Buzz streaked six lengths clear down the back stretch. The lead remained at six lengths into the third as Droopys Lady improved in behind.
Droopys Lady shaved off two lengths on the run home, but this was all about Fennis Buzz. Fennis Buzz saw off Droopys Lady by four lengths in 29.39.
