A tour de force performance from Robbie Buckley saw O’Loughlin Gaels gallop their way to two more senior hurling league points and maintain their 100% record.
Buckley helped himself to 3-3 as the city side showed they had too much firepower for Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) to contend with.
Buckley exploded into action in Freshford, scoring two goals in as many minutes to leave the Gaels with a big lead (2-3 to 0-2) after just 15 minutes. With Paddy Deegan, Huw Lawlor and Jordan Molloy equally as impressive in defence they never let their advantage slip.
Erin’s Own did reel in the deficit a little, as points from Conor Fogarty and Michael Murphy (two frees) helped cut the gap to four (2-4 to 0-6) late in the half but an injury-time flurry, topped by Jack Nolan’s goal, left O’Loughlin’s 10 points in front at the break (3-7 to 0-6).
They didn’t let up in the second half, PullOnIt further in front thanks to points from Nolan and Mark Bergin (0-2) before Buckley plundered his third goal with a quarter of the game to play (4-11 to 0-8). A late Stephen Daly goal lifted Comer spirits, but it wasn’t enough to lift them out of the relegation zone.
