Hurler Walter Walsh played star football game for Tullogher
Kilkenny champions, Tullogher-Rosbercon pulled off a shock win when beating Wexford's Naomh Éanna in the first round of the Leinster club junior football championship in O'Kennedy Park, New Ross.
Tullogher blasted into a seven point to no score lead to help find their way into the match. Although they enjoyed luck in lost time at the finish when the home side had a goal disallowed, they were good value for a battling victory.
The winners hadn't kicked a ball in anger since capturing the Kilkenny intermediate title on July 29. They made light of facing the wind and raced 0-7 to 0-0 clear after 17 minutes through Shane Ryan, Jason Shiely (2 frees), Brendan Lawlor, Cian O'Donoghue (2) and Conor Hennessy as Walter Walsh dominated in midfield.
Gorey got the deficit back to 0-8 to 0-5 seconds after the re-start, but then Tullogher struck for a vital goal, Conor Hennessy fisting the ball home after great work by Walter Walsh
Gorey pointed twice in reply. Tullogher replied in kind, and while they enjoyed a lucky break with Gorey having a late, late goal disallowed they were thrilled to get through to the quarter-finals against the Longford champions.
