The Kilkenny club Captains, Tom Sloyan and Mary Hickey were joined by 114 members and guests at the annual joint dinner.
Barry Joyce provided a beautiful meal. Both Captains enjoyed their year in office and appreciated the support given by the various committees, team managers and members.

The Crosscard Christmas outing will take place this Saturday. Entry costs €8, to include finger food after golf.
There will be additional prizes on offer. A large turnout is expected.
The organisers reserve the right to limit numbers. Accordingly, players are requested to enter the draw early. The draw will be made at 12.30pm for 12.45pm start.
There will be at least five prizes on offer in the league, so it’s still all to play for.
Should bad weather necessitate the cancellation of Saturday’s crosscard, the Christmas outing will be on December 22. This will result in the individual league being extended until December 29 to ensure 10 rounds are completed.
SENIOR GENTS: Thursday’s outing was cancelled as a mark of respect to the late Finbar Coughlan, former member and secretary of the seniors G.S.
The next competition will be on Thursday, December 13. Play starts at 10.48am. Check in is from 9.45am. Draw closes at 11.15am.
The Christmas outing and party will be on Thursday, December 20. Members interested should put their name on the entry sheet on the MSS notice board.
Also, members wishing to attend the meal only, should place their name on the relevant sheet on the MSS notice board.
LADIES CLUB: The AGM of the ladies club is this evening (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.
One of the items for discussion is the proposed ‘One Governing Body’.
PRESENTATION: There will be a presentation of prizes for all outstanding adies competitions on Tuesday, December 18 (5pm). Mince pies will be served. All members are welcome.
RESULTS: There was no competition this week due to bad weather.
Weather permitting there will be two more Christmas fare competitions on December 15 and 22.

JUNIOR/JUVENILE CLUB: Last week it was reported that Aoife Crowdle had won the Eamon Crosse Endeavour Award. This was incorrect. The actual winner was Eva Duggan. Well done Eva!
SNOOKER: Now that the first round has been completed with Liam and Andy overcoming Austin and Niall, there is a reminder for all that the quarter-finals must be completed by Sunday.

The 19th annual meeting of the Joint Club of Castlecomer GC will be held in the clubhouse tomorrow (Thursday)at 8pm.
BOARD: The club thanks local businessman, Tony Brennan of Tony Brennan Construction & Joinery, for crafting a new Men’s Captain Display Board and donating it to the club. Tony is a nephew of outgoing men’s captain, Seamie Brennan.
FUNDRAISER: An appeal has gone out to every club member to sell 10 tickets before the big fundraiser draw in the clubhouse on Monday, December 17. All support will go towards the purchase of materials for clubhouse facilities. All tickets must be returned by Saturday.
BEREAVED: Sympathy went to Tom Mooney and family who have been bereaved by the death of his father Tom Mooney snr. Sympathy also went to Caitríona Meagher and her brothers, former club captain, Pa O’Neill and Michael and Adrian, on the death of their mother, Ann O’Neill, Hillside View.
LOTTO: There was no winner of the golf club lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 4, 14, 25 and 28. The jackpot is now €8,000.

WINTER: Three rounds of the Winter League have been completed to date. Team D lead the way on 363pts, with Teams B and F close behind on 361pts, one point clear of Team G.
PARTY: A great night was had by all as the seniors celebrated with their Christmas party in the clubhouse on Friday. Secretary John Shore got everyone in the festive mood by spinning some fine yarns during the excellent meal, served up by bar and catering manager, Eddie Walsh assisted by Trish, Suzanne, Orla, Tina and Susan.
Ger Comerford, seniors captain, thanked Eddie for great service to the club over well nigh 10 years. Congratulations went to to Una Whelan, who won lady golfer of the year and Murty Coonan for retaining golfer of the year. The best was saved til last as an entertaining sing-song, with carol singing led by the Male Voice choir, brought a great night to a close.

Rose Brophy was crowned ladies Golfer of the Year at Callan GC.
The silver medal went to Betty McGrath while the bronze medal went Anna Starr. The silver spoon went to Ellen O’Shea.
In the Birdie Tree, Category A was won by Breda Ryan, with Category B going to Marie Gorey and Pauline O’Brien. Category C was won by Caroline Healy.
The 18 hole with a difference was won by Marie Gorey.

The Christmas outing was played in almost dry conditions last week. Rising temperatures made for a very pleasant competition among 12 teams.
With prizes for all the incentive was to finish high up in the scoring charts. There was fabulous scoring with all 12 teams clocking up totals of 90 points or better.
