The annual meeting of the Joint Club at Kilkenny will be held in the Clubhouse on Thursday (7.30pm). Nominations for the committee have closed with nine nominations received for seven positions.
A motion on subscriptions is up for discussion.
JD REMEMBERED: A plaque will be unveiled to the memory of the late JD Murphy at the practice green beside the 9th tee box on Saturday (11am).
JD spent many long hours coaching youngsters on that practice green over the years. All welcome to attend.
CAPTAINS' DRIVE-IN: Captains Mark Grant and Eithne Murphy will hold their drive-in on Sunday, February 3 (10.30am). It will be followed with a four person team event (11am).
A hot plate will be served after the golf. Sheet for names will be in the clubhouse by next week.
COURSE NEWS: Members are not permitted to practice chipping or putting on the course. A few members have been spotted doing so.
Anyone found doing so will be reported to the Committee.
Holes five and six are closed and will remain so for the next couple of weeks.
In the coming weeks the course will be closed for a couple of days for the ground staff to carry out a programme of re-seeding and red-fertilising.
Members will be kept informed.
PUTTING GREEN: Due to the heavy use of the putting green over Christmas, the putting green will be closed for the next couple of weeks.
LOST: On New Year’s Eve a Bushnell Laser was lost on the course. It was in its case red and white case. If anyone found it they should leave it into the Pro shop or office.
A wallet was also lost on the course over Christmas. If found drop it into the office or bar.
With the new zero tolerance to drink and driving, catering manager Peter Walkin, with the assistance of suppliers, has introduced a new alcohol free wine list.
There is a choice of red and white Spanish wine, with the white, Torres Natureo (Moscatel), receiving high praise in a recent review in a Sunday paper. The list is complimented with an Australian Sparkling wine, Rawson’s Retreat.
All wines are competitively priced at €15 per bottle and are available by the glass for €4.50
Non alcoholic beers are available with Heineken Zero and Pure Brew, a lager, produced by Guinness.

BRIDGE: Bridge will be continuing each Monday (7.30pm) with the exception of Bank Holiday Mondays’ from now on.
With the numbers playing Bridge each Monday evening increasing, there is a great need for more tables.
If you have a suitable table in reasonable condition the club might be able to use it.
SNOOKER: The singles snooker championship has reached the semi-final stage. Both need to be completed quickly.
Entries are still being taken for the Pat Wall singles memorial trophy. Intending players should place their name on the entry sheet on the notice board.

There was a great turnout at Castlecomer GC on Friday for the tribute night in honour of retiring bar and catering manager Eddie Walsh.
Eddie, who retired after 10 years of fantastic service to the club, was hugely popular and highly respected by members.
SUBS: Subscriptions for the 2019 season are now due. Rates are unchanged from 2018 as agreed at the joint annual meeting.
LOTTO: There was no winner of the golf club lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 4, 16, 25 and 26. The jackpot is €8,800.

There will also be a fun cookery demonstration on the night, where local club members will entertain with their helpful tips and cooking skills.

Meanwhile, the much anticipated rule changes are now in force. Golfers must make themselves familiar with the changes which should lead to a better pace of play.
SENIORS: The seniors resumed activities last week after the Christmas break. As ever, the veterans were mad for action and produced excellent scores.
Two pointa separated the top three teams. One team was disqualified for incorrect scores on the card, otherwise they would have picked up a prize.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Tony Sexton (9th hole) and on the 11th both Denis Kirwan and John F. Roche both put their tee shots exactly 54 inches from the pin. Both collected prizes, recording birdies in the process.
Prior to the outing members observed a minute’s silence in memory of their great friend and colleague, Mick Martin (93), who passed away during the week. He will be fondly remembered. Mick was a thorough gentleman and it was a pleasure to know him.
