Martin Lalor and Ciaran Neary beat Billy Bourke and Keith Bourke 21-15, 21-18 to win the county senior handblal doubles crown after two hard fought games.
The opening game was close all through and points were hard earned. With the game level at 12-12 the Talbot’s Inch men pulled away after some good serves and excellent kills from Lalor.
All four players combined well and there were little or no mistakes made. The ’Inch men closed out the first 21-15 but the father and son partnership came back fighting in the second game. They kicked into an early lead, going 6-1 ahead.
With some great serves from Billy and good retrieving from Keith it looked like the game would be heading to a deciding tie breaker with the scores at 14-9. Lalor then hit five great serves to level the scores at 14-14.
Every point was cancelled out and scores were hard made. The Talbot’s Inch men went for the bottom of the wall and it paid off as they took the second 21-18 after being behind for most of the game.
This was an excellent, sporting game with all four players giving it there all, which was something at such a late stage in the season.
There is a new over 35 B grade added to the Leinster entries. Interested players should have a look at this and send back entries to Billy Love as early as possible.
