David and Paul are the champions

DAVID and Paul Clifford won the Masters doubles county handball final when they beat Billy Bourke and Con Moore at the weekend.

This was David’s first year in Masters and he left his mark on the grade. Early in the campaign he won the Masters B doubles All-Ireland final with Nicky Reilly and now added the Masters A county title.

Paul has dedicated most of his time to training the St Canice’s juveniles in recent years, so it is great that he has added another county title to his collection along with the long list of juvenile winners.

Elsewhere in the Kilkenny open competition, Jimmy Purcell won the Division 2 title, beating Stephen O’Dwyer in the final. This was Jimmy’s second county title. He won the Kilkenny Masters One Wall title last year.

In the Division 1 final in Kells, Ciaran Neary beat Ger McGrath 21-15, 21-8.

For the next month there will be plenty of fixtures down for decision in the 60x30 court. Players who do not play in the Kilkenny championship are not eligible for the Leinster championship. All games most be played. Giving walk-overs is not acceptable in any grade.
