Conor Browne is the latest player to announce his intention to leave the Kilkenny squad after he made the decision to go travelling in the new year.

As was reported in the Irish Independent, the powerhouse midfielder will join both Michael Carey and James Maher in being unavailable to new Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng for the upcoming season.

Both Browne and Carey started in Kilkenny's All-Ireland final defeat to Limerick last July and along with Maher, they will be big losses to the Kilkenny dressing room.

It was only last month that Browne played a pivotal role in helping his club James Stephens into the Kilkenny SHC Final where they were beaten by the Shamrocks and he's been a mainstay on the Kilkenny panel since 2018.

Shamrocks forward Eoin Cody was speaking at the launch of this weekend's Leinster Senior Club Final and he added what a big loss Browne will be to the Cats.

“It’s a massive loss for the team and for the dressing-room,” says Cody. “Conor is obviously a brilliant hurler and he’s a great person.

“He let the team know and we all wish him the best of luck.

“He’s heading off Down Under in January. He’ll be missed, he’s a great friend of mine and a lot of the team-mates.”
