It is time to poke out and dust down those hideous fashion mistakes from the past and create a wonderfully festive and fun piece of fashion.

There won’t be a Christmas jumper to be found in Kilkenny this year as organisers of A Very Kilkenny Christmas have announced their most ‘extreme’ event to date - The A Very Kilkenny Christmas Most Extreme Jumper competition, to take place at 3pm on Sunday December 15 at Polar Parade.

This is a fun, fashion contest with a difference and one that is full of festive cheer. To capture the eye of the judges, entrants must don the most garish Christmas jumper they can find and then ‘pimp it up’ – with tinsel, lights, decorations, hats, festive glasses and other accessories and anything else that can fit on a jumper without covering its busy Christmas pattern. Organisers have confirmed that points will accrue to those who are particularly creative and festive looking and to garish entries in poor taste.

“A Very Kilkenny Christmas is all about bringing a smile to people’s faces and this event is sure to do that. This is Kilkenny’s first Extreme Christmas jumper competition. Entrants should remember that it’s not about running into a shop and picking up the first Christmas jumper you find; it’s about personalising it and creating a unique and quirky style, different to anyone else’s. It will be a lovely sight in the city centre and a feel-good factor just ten days before Christmas”, said organiser Gary Graham, Chairman, A Very Kilkenny Christmas

No entry forms are required and there is no age restriction; simply turn up on the Parade at 3pm on the day wearing your Christmas jumper. There will be a number of A Very Kilkenny Christmas organisers searching for the most appropriate Christmas jumper. All finalists will be asked to come together for final judging and the winner will be announced at 4pm.

“We have already been receiving a brilliant response to this competition. People are already planning their design, picking up jumpers, lights and other accessories. We are looking forward to Sunday 15th where we are hoping to see the Parade full with the most extraordinary and outrageous festive jumpers Kilkenny has ever seen” – Gary Graham, Chairman, A Very Kilkenny Christmas.

A prize of vouchers to the value of €100 from the following stores: Goods, Lorimat and Duggans Menswear will be presented to the overall winner.

Meanwhile the festive cheer continues in the Marble City with A Very Kilkenny Christmas.

Other events taking place during A Very Kilkenny Christmas include piped music on High Street, Kilkenny on Ice, a Christmas Market at MacDonagh Junction, The Polar Express Christmas train and family fun on ‘Polar Parade’ which include: Rodeo Reindeer; illuminated zorbs; the North Pole climbing wall; Christmas bouncy castle; bungee trampoline zone; The Elves wipe-out zone; an inflatable snow globe and Santa in a giant transparent igloo.

There is also the Christmas Treasure Hunt which is all about helping Santa to find his lost reindeers. There are nine stores participating in the novel event. Participants will be in with a chance to win one of three prizes from participating stores.
