Kilkenny County Council, County Hall
The discretionary budget for Callan Thomastown Municipal District has not increased in years, despite well-known increases in costs, local councillors have complained.
At their annual budget meeting, Senior Executive Officer in Finance at Kilkenny County Council, Michael Leahy, told the district councillors that the discretionary budget will remain at €50,000.

The discretionary budget is used in any service area as agreed by the district councillors.
However, Cllr Deirdre Cullen pointed out to the meeting that ‘the discretionary budget has remained the same since I was elected and we all know about inflation’.
She asked Mr Leahy to bring the point back to the full council budget discussions, saying that “even just a slight increase is not asking too much” and would “get little jobs over the line.”
District Chairman, Cllr Joe Lyons, seconded the call from his colleague.
The full budget is to be approved by the full Kilkenny County Council.
