A cold snap is possible in the coming weeks due to Sudden Stratospheric Warming being picked up on weather models, forecaster Alan O'Reilly has said.
The weatherman added: "Some possible impacts of the Sudden Stratospheric Warming starting to show now with one forecast model to go negative and another showing a response possible in the troposphere.
"This increases the chances of blocked weather but it still doesn't mean a Beast from the East.
"The weather model ensembles will be watched closely in the coming days and weeks to see if models start to pick up any impacts to our weather."
The forecaster said: "In simple terms: A colder start of March is very possible but it’s still wait and see, so don't go stocking up on bread!"
