Update: Storm Betty to batter Kilkenny this evening - batten down the hatches

'Antoni, Betty & Cillian' - Storm names announced for upcoming season

Similar to previous years, each weather service has contributed names suggested by members of the public

A severe weather warning has been issued for wind for Kilkenny and is now in effect.

An alert message from Met Eireann warns that late this evening and tonight, Storm Betty will bring south to southwest gales with severe gusts of up to 130 km/hr. There will be spells of heavy rain and possible flooding.

Potential Impacts: •Structural damage •Falling trees •Travel disruption  •Power outages •Localised flooding.
