The development of a 'squall line' over the country is a possibility tonight and into tomorrow according to one weather model, local forecaster Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has warned.
"Heavy rain moving in later this evening and latest high resolution AROME model shows a possible squall line developing tonight into tomorrow morning with spot flooding possible," he told his followers.
"The same model shows some very strong gusts in the Irish Sea overnight and just catching Southeast and East coast. A bumpy night for a sailing across the Irish Sea!"
A squall line is a line of severe thunderstorms that can form along and/or ahead of a cold front, bringing heavy precipitation.
