The Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee is planning to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and the Kilkenny connections to World War II later this week.

A lecture by Con Mc Grath from Ireland’s Own magazine is planned for this Thursday evening (June 6) in the Home Rule Club in Kilkenny City at 8pm.

Admission will be €5 and there will also be a prize raffle on the night.

On Sunday (June 9), the committee have invited re-enactment groups to join them at MacDonagh Railway Station between the hours of 3pm and 6pm.

There will be various vehicles, uniforms and the weapons of the war on display.

There will then be a special ceremony at the memorial in the railway station at 4.15pm.

This will be a free event and all are welcome to attend.
