Fantastic lineup of events at St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny

St Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny

St Canice’s Cathedral will be home to a number of exciting events over the coming weeks.

Ceoltóirí Kilkenny will run on Tuesdays in June and July and is part of the new initiative of the Evening Economy for Kilkenny. Tickets are €10 and are available on Eventbrite or on the door on the night. Guided tours will also take place on Mondays and Saturdays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

National Youth Orchestra will also perform at the cathedral on July 19. Experience an exciting performance by the top 100 young musicians on the island of Ireland! The National Youth Orchestra, conducted by international conductor Ruth Reinhardt will be joined by award-winning pianist Fiachra Garvey and will present an ambitious programme as part of its National Summer Proms tour, including Jennah Vainio’s “Sylvia’s Lullaby”, Schumann Piano Concerto and Sibelius Symphony No 2.

St Canice’s will also host a number of performances during the Kilkenny Arts Festival including superstar violinist Mari Samuelsen who joins the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to close out KAF24 with an exciting performance featuring Nils Frahm’s exhilarating Hammers, Arvo Pärt’s celebrated Fratres, and Max Richter’s Vivaldi – The Four Seasons Recomposed.

Another festival highlight at the cathedral is the Irish Chamber Orchestra presents a characteristically eclectic programme that mixes new work with traditional favourites, including Vaughan Williams’ gorgeous, ethereal Fantasia and Mozart’s heartbreaking Symphony No. 40 directed by their chief conductor, Thomas Zehetmai.
