On Sunday, November 10, the Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee are holding an event set to take place in the Peace Park at 4pm.
The Armistice Day commemorations ceremony will consist of prayers, poetry, music, wreath laying, last Post and Reveille, as well as the raising of the National Flag and playing the National Anthem.
Armistice Day, which is also known as Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, is commemorated every year on November 11 to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France in 1918. This year marks 105 years since the treaty.

The Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee was founded in 2011 to promote and honour the memory of the over 800 Kilkenny men and five women who gave their lives in World War I, for the cause of freedom in Europe from 1914-1918.
The Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Michael McCarthy will be in attendance, as well as the Mayor of Kilkenny, Andrew McGuinness, and other dignitaries.
All are encouraged to attend.
