A Kilkenny rock band is set to kick off a new TV series that links young acts up with legendary Irish musicians for a huge hometown gig!

An Ghig Mhór, a new RTÉ series that celebrates the joy of putting on your first big hometown gig will air from Monday 9 June, 8pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player. 

In each episode, a renowned Irish musician mentors an up-and-coming band and helps them to organise their first big gig in their hometown.

From the sitting room to the stage, the series follows the bands as they attempt to find a venue, sell tickets and deliver the performance of a lifetime. An Ghig Mhór provides a platform to new emerging Irish bands and shines a light on the hard work, creativity and dedication that goes into putting on your own gig.

Starting next Monday, Kilkenny rockers The Donnys will be the first act to tell their story. Folk singer John Spillane will share his expertise with The Donnys as they prepare for one of their biggest Kilkenny performances to date. Check out the trailer below! 

The Donnys are a five-piece rock and roll band local to Kilkenny. Oisín Conroy is the lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar; Niall Fionn is lead guitar; Ethan Jackman is on bass; Adam Drennan is on keys and Eoghan Conroy is the drummer.
