A major event planned for Kells this weekend has been postponed due to an inclement weather forecast.

The Tailteann Games were due to be a day of heritage, community, and celebration on Saturday. Events planned included a parade, stick fighting, tug of war, stone lifting, and more. A craft fair, music and food stalls were also due to be in place, with a concert in the evening.

Now, however, organisers have said it won't be going ahead.

"Due to the severe weather forecast for this Saturday, the Tailteann Games committee has made the very difficult decision to postpone both the Tailteann Games and the evening concert," said a statement.

"The decision was not taken lightly, but the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of our community, traders, demonstrators, athletes, and performers must come first."

Refunds will be issue to those who bought tickets, the committee said. A new date will be announced 'very soon' for the event.
