‘A Stranger is Present’ is a live performance by Justine Szklarska that will be held in the Home Rule Club. Justine will offer visitors to sit with her and experience an intimate moment of non verbal communication. Running on the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of August (from 12 to 8pm) this piece will explore the distance between people and pose the question are we really able to see each other?
A familiar face around Kilkenny, Justine has been living here for the past 10 years, originating from Poland this will be her first venture into performance arts. The performance is inspired by Marina Abramovic’s work ‘The Artist is Present’, Justine is keenly interested in what makes us human, our emotions and our relationships. She said of how she came to perform the work ‘I’ve lived in Kilkenny for a decade and so many faces have become familiar, yet the people behind those faces, what’s inside, remained unknown, anonymous. I realised that this is actually the way we live. We live beside each other, rather than together. By doing this performance I would like to provoke a change. I want to cross this invisible yet existing border, this distance between us and really begin to see each other.’
The performance will run 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of August (12-8pm) at the Home Rule Club as part of AKA Festival. This performance is open and free to all. For details please see Facebook or contact
