Mary Cradock and Brendan Corcoran will appear in On Golden Pond
For their upcoming and highly anticipated spring presentation, Watergate Productions have chosen the poignant yet humorous play On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson.
The play’s splendid look at old age, parenting and love, evokes a beautiful picture.
A touching, funny and warmly perceptive play, this is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year.
He is a retired professor, nearing 80, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever.
Ethel is ten years younger, and the perfect foil for Norman, delighting in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together.
The play explores the often turbulent relationship the daughter Chelsea shared with her father growing up and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.
After 48 years of visiting the cabin, the love story of Ethel and Norman is complicated by failing health in a work of rare simplicity and beauty.
On Golden Pond opens in the Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny on Thursday, March 22 and runs over two weekends until Saturday, March 31.
The success of any production depends on the quality of the actors and the director.
This production will have an all-star cast, including the elegant Mary Cradock, the actor’s actor, Brendan Corcoran, the powerful Elaine O’Hara and talented trio if Declan Taylor, Alan Butler and Oisín O’Reilly and is directed by the wonderful Don O’Connor.
