National Heritage Week takes place between the 19th and 26th of August. Callan Heritage Society has organised two events during that week.

Monday 20th August the Poems and Songs of the Callan area. The Venue will be the Kcat art centre opposite the Abbey Meadow starting at 8pm.

On Tuesday 21st August at the same KCAT venue, the story of the Irish sailor Thomas McSweeney who was hanged in Malta on the 8th June 1837. Again the evening will start at 8pm.

Callan Heritage Society has two other events which take place in September. On Sunday 2nd of September they will visit local graveyards Tullamaine, Newtown, Whitechurch, and Coolagh. If time permits they will also visit the old Kilbride Graveyard meeting at Tullamine 2pm.

Then on Saturday 15th September the Society will go on a bus outing to Waterford where they will take in visits to the 'Bishops Palace', Medieval Museum, and the Edmund Rice Centre at Mount Sion. Bus leaves from outside Parish Church, Callan at 9am.
