John Cleere’s Bar & Theatre is a busy spot this week
What a week we’ve had and what a week to come proving that though many of the festivals are now done for 2018, there’s still lots to entertain as a number of well-known names blend with a range of local and visiting talent.
There’s plenty of haunting tunes to enjoy this (Wednesday) evening if you plan on marking Hallowe’en at a local venue.
Chart topping singer- songwriter Gavin James has an album signing at John Cleere’s Bar & Theatre from 2pm to 4pm on Thursday. This is sure to be a busy one. It’s a ticket-only affair with passes available from Rollercoaster Records in advance.
The award-winning performer, who recently released track ‘Glow’, is expected to be joined by some of his group, which includes Castlecomer talent Geoff Warner-Clayton, for the local get-together.
The weekly Sofa Sessions at Billy Byrne’s Bar hosts Hot Four from 9pm. The local jazz quartet, which you may have caught at some stage at Left Bank, will entertain with a set of standards and classic jazz.
If you’ve little ones in your house and fancy a sing-a-long session then Friday provides two opportunities at the Watergate Theatre. A musical version of Goldilocks & The Three Bears will be offered up there from 12pm and again from 3pm.
Those in search of the blues will find it aplenty at John Cleere’s Bar & Theatre when Guy Davis entertains from 9.30pm.
The evening’s fun at Matt the Miller’s comes in the form of SuperSoul Machine, flanked by the evening traditional fare and a late night DJ.
Saturday marks a welcome return for Join Me In The Pines. The solo project from Bell X1 star Dave Geraghty, the band provided a stellar night at John Cleere’s Bar & Theatre last May and are set to do more of the same from 8pm.
While Martin Lacey plays the bar at the Home Rule Club. And at the Rhu Glenn in Slieverue Michael English provides the music.
Sunday sees Set Theatre at Langton’s hosts a Rock Legends Live tribute night in aid of local woman Alice Taylor. The 26-year-old from Ballycallan needs significant funds to help with treatment in her battle with cancer.
Line up includes Paddy & Malcolm, Big Guns, TV Jones & The Tomahawks and many more between them playing the music of Elvis Presley, Brian Setzer, Neil Young and Thin Lizzy. Admission is €10 with doors open at 8.30pm.
So, whether you enjoy your music in the form of a live session or being spun from DJ decks, there's lots to choose from so get out and enjoy.
