Plenty of live music in Kilkenny this weekend and the coming days
Can you believe we’re almost through the first month of 2019? And the next few days, as always, is choc-a-block with musicial treats.
There are sessions on in city and county venues almost every night amid a range of free and paying gigs from rising stars to some more experienced entertainers.
Deenside Players continue their run of Cinderella at 8pm each evening from Wednesday to Saturday with a 2.30pm matinee performance on that last date.
Thursday sees a return of one of Ireland's best known duos, Foster and Allen. The Watergate Theatre hosts the show from the two who have been on the scene for at least four decades. It’s the local leg of an Irish tour titled Putting on the Style and has already sold out.
If you’re after some folk fun then Friday has something special in store. Laura Cortese and The Dance Cards work their way to the Watergate Theatre from 8pm.
Across the road, The Blues Club has its first outing of the year at John Cleere’s Bar and Theatre from 9.30pm. Instruments are supplied so if you’ve a talent to share then simply show up and take part.
You’re also hugely welcome to swing by to support those who take to the microphone on the night.
The Electrix set the energy bar at Matt the Miller’s from 10pm with DJ Eddie Hughes keeping the music going with his late night set.
If you love to sing then Hotel Kilkenny hosts an event that you may be interested in on Saturday afternoon. CÓRus comes to the county with a free singing workshop from 11am to noon. The fun singing classes for adults doesn’t run auditions and there’s no need to be able to read music. Whatever you’re into, rock, pop, country, Irish or gospel, you’re invited to take part.
Teen stars Sean and Conor Price play the Watergate Theatre from 8pm. The brothers from Blessington, who rose to fame in the 2017 X Factor, will be supported by Ryan Mack who originally became a household name as part of Hometown. From Newbridge, you may have spotted recently performing on TV show Dancing with the Stars.
If country’s more your thing then the Home Rule Club is your Saturday spot. A Garth Brooks tribute will be playing in the bar there for the evening.
While party purveyors Riff Shop are back at Left Bank to really liven up the weekend.
On Sunday, there’s a return to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Years and Dance Hall Days at the Watergate Theatre. It’s billed as a “rollercoaster trip through the hits of the fifties and sixties”, the show starts at 8pm.
