Slí Na Scéalta is an outdoor, free and self-guided family reading experience that combines creativity, reading and exercise in a fun and interactive way.
Featuring author Brendan McDonalds’s story “Elephant on the Farm”, the story is displayed across 13 story panels located around the monkey puzzle avenue in Woodstock Gardens – a distance of 1km.
You can follow the story from beginning to end as you walk.
The illustrations by Martin Beckett are bright and colourful and the amount of text on each page is brought to life to spark the imagination and curiosity in children.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Fidelis Doherty was delighted to launch this unique and exciting family experience.
“It brings the story to life and I am sure it will continue to entertain and inspire young visitors in Woodstock and other locations,” she said.
County Librarian, Josephine Coyne, notes that there is great excitement in bringing the library outdoors in such a novel way.
“We plan to relocate Slí Na Scéalta later in the year to other locations in the county and we would encourage parents and children to visit Woodstock Gardens and encourage reading for enjoyment as well as enjoying a walk outdoors,” she added.
This project was funded by Creative Ireland and supported by Kilkenny County Council Parks Department.
