After a three year wait, the pandemic-postponed local Reeling in the Years production attracted a full house to Windgap Community Centre last Friday evening.

As old videos and photographs rolled for an hour and a half, a pin could be heard dropping as many aspects of social life and people and places past flashed by.

They included videos of the Centenary of the Creamery in 1993, School Concerts, Joe Crowley’s stables, the initial excavations at the Coshel in Knockroe, Windgap’s Mini Marathon, bringing home and piking square bales in George Smiths, music and crubeens in Powers pub with The Clancy’s and Tommy Makem and set dancing in the street, John Delaney's Bar, Confirmations, Tullahought Church Centenary, Landy’s Mill and Killamery duo Scotty at The Piltown Show and Olvie Cuddihy on the Mouthorgan.

Also watched were Ned Fitzpatrick’s slate-cutting demonstration, Kilkenny All Ireland Final snippets and rare Bearna na Gaoithe county hurling finals wins.

All were mixed with singers of note and no notes that provided lively and traditionally appropriate tunes songs with local voice overs added for some of the old stories.

All sports were included with hurling as topical as ever with predictions after the U21 County final in 1994 that the game that started in a parish of 600, 40 years earlier that Windgap was good for a County Junior Title next year.
