A proposed road map for the ring road extension, joining the Freshford Road just behind Aut Even Hospital
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Jack Chambers recently announced details of a €626 million investment programme for 2023 for regional and local roads across the country.
An amount of €17.7 million has been announced in respect of the maintenance and improvement of regional and local roads throughout County Kilkenny for 2023.
This represents an increase in funding of €787,000 for 2023 in Kilkenny.
Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick, has welcomed the funding, which he says 'will support the improvement and maintenance of road network across the city and county to ensure that all users can travel safely'.
"The funding will include drainage works, road safety schemes, bridge rehabilitation and particularly an additional allocation for the much-needed Northern Ring Road Extension in Kilkenny City," he added.
The climate change adaptation grant introduced for works on roads at risk due to the impact of climate change and severe weather events has also become a crucial part of this funding with €515,000 allocated for 15 climate change adaptation projects.
