Famous actor and performer traces his roots to Kilkenny

Adrian Dunbar and Neil Morrissey

Line Of Duty stars Neil Morrissey and Adrian Dunbar recently undertook a once-in-a-lifetime journey for ITV's DNA Journey series.

During the episode, Morrissey discovered that some of his ancestral roots are in Castlecomer in North Kilkenny.

The actor, born in England, spent most of his childhood in care.

He had Irish parents but 'wasn’t close' with them growing up and eventually 'lost contact' in later years.

“I feel like I want to have roots there,” the actor said of County Kilkenny before his arrival.

After visiting 'Comer, Morrissey discovered about the battles between his Irish ancestors, the Loughlins, and the Brennans.

Morrissey's great great grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Loughlin, were known as 'hellraisers' locally, official documents showed.

There was also a romance involving a Loughlin girl and a Brennan boy who moved to England.

The DNA Journey series episode aired earlier this week on Tuesday, March 21.
