A scam text message targeting mothers is currently circulating in areas including Kilkenny.
The text purports to have been sent by a son/daughter on another phone and asks the recipient to contact a specific number.
An example of the message is as follows: "Hi mum i am texting you off a friends phone i have smashed my phone and their phone is about to die, text/call me on my new number +353 83 XXX XXXX please".
The number provided is a number being used by the scammer(s) perpetrating the scam.
They attempt to use the false urgency of the situation to manipulate recipients into transferring money.
It is important to not engage with these text messages.
