Ferrybank Shopping Centre
Newly-appointed Cathoirleach of Piltown Municipal District, Cllr Ger Frisby, has asked local authority executives to write to Dunnes Stores once again, in a bid to confirm the opening date of Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
Dunnes Stores was recently confirmed to be purchaser of the centre, a vast complex on the Kilkenny-Waterford border that has been mostly empty since its completion in 2008.
Since the purchase, a large amount of remedial work has been conducted, prompting anticipation of an inevitable opening.
Area Engineer Stan Cullen told elected members about some of the work recently undertaken, including the reconfiguration of the entrance to make it more accessible and checks on fire and security alarms.
Senior Planner Denis Malone stated that the local authority has a contact in relation to the centre and can write to that contact seeking an opening date.
