End of an era as popular parish priest retires in Kilkenny

After 28 years in our parish as Parish Priest, Mgr Michael Ryan will retire and reside at St John’s Presbytery in Kilkenny.

As we bid farewell to Msgr Ryan, he takes with him the best wishes of all in the community. Testament to his leadership is the present healthy state of the church and the cemetery.

During his tenure he oversaw a €1 million refurbishment of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and also the provision of a badly needed extension to the parish cemetery.

Never a man to rest on his laurels, his continuous improvements included the restoration of the church organ, and the repointing of the exterior walls.

He will always hold a special place on Deenside for his over and above the call of duty on both sad and happy occasions. Never one to say no to any request for assistance he could always find a way.

We offer our gratitude and thanks to Msgr Ryan as he steps into his retirement. Over many years Msgr Ryan has walked with us individually and as a community, in our shared journey of faith.

We ask continued good health and joy to him for many years to come.

Effective from July 29, Very Reverend Richard Scriven will become the new PP in Castlecomer and he will also assume the duties of admin in Clogh-Moneenroe.

Our new PP is a native of Callan, and has been the administrator of St Mary’s Cathedral since October 2018. Ordained in 1984 has worked in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, St Kieran’s College, St John’s Kilkenny and the parish of Inistioge.
