At the AGM of Danesfort GAA and Camogie Club on Friday, August 11, Catherine Cunniffe was elected as the first female chairperson in the history of the club.
Catherine from Graigue Upper Danesfort, played Camogie from an early age with Danesfort and Graigue Ballycallan and wore the number 3 jersey with distinction at school, club and colleges level.
Catherine has worked tirelessly for Danesfort GAA and Camogie Club over the last 10 years, holding positions of registrar, camogie coaching officer and a member of our development committee. Catherine got involved mentoring when her children Alan and Molly started playing hurling and camogie.
She is currently a mentor with the minor hurlers and the u-14 camogie teams at club and county level. Catherine was involved when Danesfort GAA and Camogie Club signed up to be one of the first GAA clubs in Kilkenny to adopt a diversity and inclusion programme in association with Kilkenny Recreation Sports partnership.
In the last few years, Catherine has played a leading role in fundraising for the development of the club facilities, with many complete and ongoing projects at the cub with the buy a brick, centenary membership, corporate signage and super prize draw fundraisers. Catherine is looking forward to leading the club as the first female chairperson.
