Port of Waterford, situated at Belview, County Kilkenny
CEO of Port of Waterford, David Sinnott, recently informed elected members of Piltown Municipal District about ambitious plans the port has to expand its impact in South Kilkenny and across the entire South-East Region.
The CEO made a presentation about the Port of Waterford to councillors at the meeting, which was held at the Marine Point Building in Belview Port.
The presentation outlined plans to bring the port, local people and local communities closer to the world through trade, economic development and sustainable growth.
The CEO highlighted the port's commitment to unlocking the potential of the South-East Region by looking to connect companies with their desired trade destinations in the most efficient, effective and sustainable way.
Another part of this expansion includes plans for a quay extension and a new laydown/transportation yard designed to accommodate the storage of shipping containers, along with a container repair area.
It was put to the CEO by Cllr Fidelis Doherty that many people in South Kilkenny have little understanding of the day-to-day operations at the port and she asked if Port of Waterford could hold an open day for members of the public.
CEO Sinnott told the councillor that he agreed, and that he would enquire about arranging such an event in 2024.
