The letter was sent to a referee in charge of an under-17 minor hurling game
'Your arrogance stinks, your [sic] not welcome in Castlecomer', reads one choice sentence in the now notorious letter sent to a Kilkenny referee - a letter that has now led to a situation where all local fixtures for the weekend are not going ahead.
The handwritten, anonymous letter, seen by the Kilkenny People, sets out a litany of lurid accusations around match decisions like line balls and a penalty.
The referee is called a 'solid disgrace' and accused of siding with the home team. Then, it moves on to much darker material.
"You won't get away with this."
"We know where you live and all about your family. You won't have luck for this. May you die roaring with cancer."
The letter was sent to a referee in charge of the under-17 minor hurling game between Erins Own and Thomastown, which Thomastown won.
The referees met in Langton's last night. In solidarity with their colleague, it now looks like they will not take charges of games this weekend in protest.
