Thomastown
A number of community projects have been completed in rural Kilkenny communities
Ballyhale, Graignamanagh and Thomastown have all recently benefited from funding to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities.
Local councillors were updated at the January meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District representatives.
In Thomastown a new outdoor seating area and fencing has been completed at the Scouts Den.
Cllr Deirdre Cullen praised the ‘great work’ and said the seating really finished off the project.
The project was funded under the Community Recognition Fund which is specifically targeted at projects that are located in communities, towns and villages that are hosting the beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants. The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community.
Meanwhile community facilities are also being improved in Ballyhale and Graignamanagh.
In Ballyhale a new location has been agreed for a bus shelter, outside the community centre. Works will now progress to install the base for the structure.
Cllr Joe Lyons said it was good to see the location being moved.
Trees have been planted along the Dock Road in Graignamanagh with seating, low level railing and landscaping to follow. A bollard will be put in place at the entrance to stop cars parking on the lane.
