Councillor Andrew McGuinness has welcomed the scheme
A local councillor is advising local authority tenants to avail of a new grant scheme to help with home improvements.
Councillor Andrew McGuinness has said the scheme will assist tenants to carry out works with Kilkenny County Council covering 50% of the cost of the works up to a maximum contribution of €2000.
“This is a great scheme that will help people to carry out essential repairs inside or outside their homes such as replacing doors and windows, skip hire, garden maintenance, purchasing a garden shed, replacing a kitchen, new flooring, painting and so on,” said Cllr. Andrew McGuinness.
“The objective of the scheme is to assist tenants to carry out works that they may need to get done to their homes but are not carried out by Kilkenny County Council. The grant can be applied for once per year and I’m advising people to take the opportunity as it is a good scheme that can help get some essential works done,” he said.
“There are some conditions attached to the application so applicants need to ensure they are up to date on rent and the works must not be carried out until after the grant has been awarded. Funding is also limited and, depending on how many people apply, may not cover every application. So it is important to fill out the forms properly and get them in on time,” he said.
“The closing date for the scheme is Friday, April 12 and if I can assist anybody with applications I’m more than happy to help. I’m delighted to see this scheme in place and of course I would like to see even bigger grants available to assist Council tenants but this is a positive start,” concluded Cllr Andrew McGuinness
