Kilkenny tops the list of most picturesque Irish places

Kilkenny has been named at the top of a list of Ireland's 12 most picturesque towns, beating several prominent tourist traps including Dingle and Doolin.
The popularity of each location was measured by a unique index score - based on the number of hashtags and views each coastal gem has racked up on Instagram, as well as Trip Advisor rankings - with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking.
With the help of bookmaker Betway, the most beautiful towns and villages in Ireland that can’t be missed have been revealed. Kilkenny placed as the top destination for your next Irish minibreak.

"Described as Ireland's most beautiful medieval city, Kilkenny is a stunning and distinctive spot that does not compare to many spots in the Emerald Isle. It brings a unique charm with plenty of natural beauty, art, and culture to explore. The ancient capital is a modern city that holds a vibrant but friendly atmosphere you are bound to fall in love with," the entry notes.

While Dublin may be known for its buzzy atmosphere and Galway has its unique Irish charm that is loved by tourists and locals - a smaller, tucked-away gem that still gives you everything you need and more could be where to go for your next adventure.

It’s no surprise that one of County Kerry’s most gorgeous oceanfront towns, Dingle, followed behind in second place alongside quirky and charming seaside village Doolin. Now known for being the ‘foodie’ hub of Kerry, Dingle is situated on the southern edge of the Dingle Peninsula - and boasts stunning walking trails around the area as well as spectacular views over the bay. Doolin also proved to be a popular spot with the enchanting village having lots to offer, including a hike to the Cliffs of Moher or a ferry ride to the Aran Islands.

Designated heritage town Adare also made the top six, as the quaint village is made up of gorgeous thatched cottages and cobbled streets - and is the home of picture-perfect Adare Manor house, which is a must-see for any visit. Kerry town Kenmare should also be on your list of places to visit, being a quieter alternative to Killarney, as it's described as a haven of tranquillity. There is no doubt that you will find yourself rambling around the Diagon Alley-like streets as you come across one of the largest stone circles in South West Ireland.

Dunmore East in County Waterford could be a great spot to visit with its secluded coves and gorgeous views of the world’s oldest functioning lighthouse at Wexford’s Hook Head. Meanwhile, the charming village of Carlingford in Lough is a perfect option if you’re looking for variety - with it being loved for its many hikes and water sports while being steeped in history.
