Kilkenny family join the hardest geezer in Africa run

Graham, Edwin and Colin Harper in Tunisia after the final 10k

A Kilkenny family travelled to Africa recently to join ‘the hardest geezer’ in the final leg of his run across the continent for charity.

Colin Harper was following the epic journey of Russ Cook who began his mammoth adventure in April 2023 when he set off from South Africa’s most southerly point with the aim of running the entire length of Africa and decided that he wanted to join him on the final leg of the run.

Colin decided to ask his father Edwin, who is involved Kilkenny Fit for Life and takes part in the Park Run who decided to jump on board with the plan. Colin’s brother, Graham also decided to take part and the trio booked flights to Tunisia via Munich arriving the day before Chris was due to complete his gruelling 352-day run from South Africa, travelling close to 16,000km on foot.

On Sunday (April 7), donning green t-shirts emblazoned with ‘the youngest geezer’, ‘the softest geezer’ and ‘the oldest Geezer’, along with proudly flying the Irish flag, they gathered with fellow participants from around the globe to join forces with the indomitable hardest Geezer for his concluding 10-kilometre run.

“We are so proud of our brothers and father, who have gone the distance by running alongside a remarkable individual, a beacon of inspiration for countless others and a staunch advocate for mental health awareness. It's an honour for them to be part of this historic moment, as he becomes the first person to traverse the entire length of Africa,” said daughter and sister, Jill.

To date almost €1 million has been raised for charity. For more or to donate see givestar.io/gs/PROJECTAFRICA
