111% rise in women seeking support from Kilkenny refuge

The number of women seeking the support of a Kilkenny women’s refuge has more than doubled in just one year.

Coming soon after a garda report to the Joint Policing Committee, which suggested there has been a significant increase in incidents of domestic violence in the district, the Amber report confirms the apparent rise in these type of incidents.


According to Amber, 518 women living in Kilkenny and Carlow contacted Amber for support and information in 2023 - an increase of 111% on 2022. There was an increase of 213% in women receiving legal and court support.
