Mayor of Kilkenny Andrew McGuinness and the Lions Club will join forces to assist the most vulnerable in our community.

Work has already begun on the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal and Christmas Concert, two fundraisers that have traditionally raised money for struggling families in our community at Christmas time.

The funds will be donated to the Lions Club who will distribute it to local organisations like St Vincent De Paul, Amber Women’s Refuge Centre, Kilkenny Social Services and others. Speaking to the Kilkenny People, Mayor Andrew McGuinness said Kilkenny Lions Club have always done fantastic work in Kilkenny.

“They go above and beyond to help raise funds for the most vulnerable in our community and they support great organisations like St Vincent DePaul, who ensure the families and individuals that need support the most, get it,” he said.

“I’m delighted to be working with them again and I want to congratulate President Gerry McGovern on his new position. We will be launching the Mayor's Christmas Appeal in the autumn where we will be seeking the support of the local business community, who have been fantastic every year, to raise funds. At the same time I will launch the Mayor]s Christmas Concert and the line up of entertainment for that event.

“The line up is already looking very exciting,” said Mayor McGuinness. “As part of all of this we will also host a joint table quiz with the Lions Club and a series of street collections and busking so keep an eye on local media for some forthcoming announcements.

Mayor McGuinness will also travel to Kilkenny, Minnesota in September where he will represent Kilkenny at a series of meetings and functions, one of which will be to establish a new connection between Kilkenny Lions Club and the local Lions Club in Minnesota located in Waterville.
President Gerry McGovern expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming visit from the Mayor of Kilkenny, Ireland, to Kilkenny, Minnesota, and is looking forward to building a connection between the two communities.

“We are delighted to be a part of this initiative, which strengthens our ties across the ocean and gives us an opportunity to make new contacts and share ideas,” said Lions Club president Gerry McGovern.

“The mayor’s support through the Mayor’s Fund has been invaluable, enabling us to assist local charities not only during the festive season but throughout the year. We are truly grateful for his continued commitment to our cause.”
