A number of gardaí who have served in Kilkenny were recognised for their exceptional bravery and courage when they were presented with a Scott Medal Award.

The presentations took place on Monday at Hotel Kilkenny and Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary commended the recipients.

“Today we gather to award six Scott Medal Commendations First Class and two Scott Medal Commendations Second Class to gardaí or sergeant and garda ranks who have distinguished themselves for bravery in the performance of their duties.

“The bravery shown by these gardaí whose unwavering dedication and commitment to protect and serve the people of Ireland has seen them go above and beyond the call of duty.

“These courageous gardaí have risked life while working in dangerous situations to protect the people of this country. They have done so selflessly and with distinction,” he said.

Superintendent Sean O’Meara presented commendations to Garda Graham Gohery, Garda Aisling Butler and Sergeant Fiona Ruth for the exceptional courage and bravery shown in the execution of duty while engaging and pursuing two armed assailants following an armed robbery at a post office in Leighlinbridge on March 1, 2016.

Scott Medal Commendations were also presented to Garda Cathal Furlong and Sergeant Hud Kelly for the bravery they showed when they entered a burning building in North Kilkenny in 2015 and to Garda Caroline O’Brien who entered the River Nore in July 2019 to perform a river rescue.
