Kilkenny student raises considerable sum of money as she prepares to take humanitarian trip abroad

Almost €3,000 has been raised by a Kilkenny student who hopes to play a small part in making the lives of the less fortunate when she travels to Africa later this year.
Amy Ring, a second year student nurse from Kilkenny attending the University of Galway is putting plans in place make a trip to Kenya, to volunteer with Brighter Communities Worldwide.
The group's aim is to improve healthcare and healthcare access by administering essential vaccinations, working in hospitals and medical centres and giving educational workshops.
Along with this, the group will be involved in installing smokeless stoves throughout the community with the aim to reduce smoke-related illnesses and improve overall quality of life.
Raising funds on her GoFund Me Page for the four week trip, €1,000 will go directly to Brighter Communities Worldwide with the hope to support future community projects and healthcare. The remaining funds raised will assist the Kilkenny student in receiving her vaccinations, flights and other travel expenses.
