Josephine O' Neill with Cllrs Michael McCarthy and Joe Lyons
A Civic Reception was held recently to honour a Bennettsbridge woman and Callan Macra Club member who was earlier this year elected to the prestigious role of National President of Macra.
Josephine O' Neill, an active member of Callan Macra, became the 40th President of Macra and the first female candidate to contest and win a presidential election.
The reception was held at the request of Cllr Joe Lyons. From more than 170 clubs around the country, Callan is one of the most active and vibrant.

Cathaoirlach of Kilkenny County Council Michael McCarthy said it was an honour to hold a Civic Reception for Josephine and told her she is a model young person that has reached new heights in the social and working world of rural Ireland.
Cllr Joe Lyons said he was proud to nominate the Callan Macra representative, former chairperson, secretary and county treasurer for the award.
He said Josephine is a leader with talent, good work ethic and above all a real people's person. She has won awards in public speaking, sports, dancing, performing arts, debating and much more. Joe said Josephine is a credit to her family, her club and her Community. Cllr Deirdre Cullen, also from Bennettsbridge, wished Josephine well and congratulated her on her achievement. All councillors present added their words of support and praise.
