Nine Kilkenny projects shortlisted in 2025 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards

Nine local projects have been shortlisted in the 2025 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards, Kilkenny County Council has said.

The awards are held in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and honour the exceptional work of local authorities across Ireland in enhancing community life and delivering high-quality public services.

The projects recognised in this year’s shortlist include:

• Information & Activities Programme for Older People in Age Friendly Initiative

• Championing Community Climate Action, Kilkenny in Climate Change

• Kilkenny’s Toil and Trouble – Discover the spells cast on society during the Kilkenny Witch Trials in Festival of the Year

• The UcanACT Project in Health & Wellbeing

• Restoration and conservation of Victorian Woodstock House, Gardens & Arboretum in Heritage and Built Environment

• Creative Connections: Coote’s Lane to Ring Road in Municipal District Initiative

• The Barrow Valley Activities Hub & Motorhome Aire in Supporting Tourism

• Art of Change in Sustaining the Arts

• Mayfair Library and Public Realm in Urban Revival

The shortlisted projects reflect Kilkenny County Council’s ongoing commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable county. From cultural programming and environmental initiatives to community engagement and infrastructure development, each project highlights the Council’s dedication to innovation and excellence in local governance.

“We are honoured to be recognised for our work across such a diverse range of initiatives,” said Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council. “These nominations are a testament to the passion and professionalism of our teams, and to the strong partnerships we’ve built with communities throughout Kilkenny City and county.”

The 21st Excellence in Local Government Awards will take place on Thursday, November 27. Winners will be announced across fifteen categories, including the coveted Local Authority of the Year, celebrating the best in local government from all 31 local authorities.

Kilkenny County Council says it looks forward to joining colleagues from across Ireland to celebrate the achievements that continue to shape and strengthen communities.
