Students add to spirit of Christmas at market

Students from Loreto Secondary School in the city added a bit of festive cheer to the Christmas market on the Parade in the city this year.

The transition-year students were honoured to be asked to contribute to the ‘Spirit of the Christmas Season’, and they came up with the theme and provided the stencils for the decoration of the cabins.

The scenes include local landmarks such as Rothe House, St Canice’s Cathedral, The Tholsel and Kilkenny Castle, all of which have been decorated in a seasonal way. They also incorporated themes of the nativity and retail designs to add to the attractiveness of the Parade market.

Many visitors flocked to the market over the weekend to sample the seasonal food and drink on offer, and perhaps to purchase a Christmas gift or two from the 25 craftmakers and food producers from around the South East. Younger visitors also had a chance to experience a Victorian carousel, and entertainment by local musical acts is being provided during the weekends.

From tomorrow (Thursday) onward, the market is open daily from 10.30am to 6pm until December 23.
