Ballyragget improved its Tidy Towns points total by three this year.
The north Kilkenny town picked up extra marks in the categories of Residential Streets & Housing Areas, Tidiness and Litter Control, and Sustainable Waste and Resource Management.
Adjudicators praised the completion of the village renewal scheme, which was carried out last year, and complimented the green space 'with trees and perennials in a village where otherwise might be used for car parking'.
The approach roads also came in for mention in the report, although concerns were expressed over the amount of weed spraying. Also complimented were the litter patrols by the Gateway team for their role in keeping the village clean and tidy.
“It was this adjudicator’s first visit to Ballyragget and we enjoyed spending a few hours travelling around and looking at your streets, buildings and parks, says the report.
“Well done on your efforts to date and we hope this report provides some guidance for your future projects.
