SILAIRE WOOD-the implementation of the second phase of the development of Silaire wood is now in process.this regeneration programme involves the opening up of the canopy to enable light to penetrate to the forest floor and so encourage the growth of important flora and foliage.
It will also encourage insects and other inverterbrates so as to entice the return of wildlife such as birds, badgers squirrels, foxes and rabbits . a work programme to eliminate the Himalayan Balsam which is so invasive in the wood will be undertaken during the Summer months programme has also been negotiated to provide for a person to work nineteen and a half hours per week, this an arrangement with TUS which is a Leader Programme Social Protection Scheme. All using the facilities at the wood are fulsome in praise of the work completed to date which when finished will make one of the gems of the Barrow Valley.
GOLFING SOCIETY-Twenty members of the Graignamanagh Golfing Society travelled to Courtown Golf Club on Saturday last for their Spring outing and all the players agreed it was a most enjoyable experience in very seasonal weather on a challenging course. An early morning hail storm made conditions difficult but with conditions improving as the day wore on the hardy golfers really warmed to the task.Captain Brian Dunne thanked all who travelled and also thanked the host club for their friendly reception. ROWING CLUB- Congratulations to the Under 18 Girls crew who had a most convincing victory in the Trinity Regatta on Saturday 8th April.The hard training of the past few months has paid off handsomely and the team of Danielle Ryan, Nora Murphy, Jenna Joyce, Jessica Coady and cox Caoimhe Duffy are benefitting from the training programme.
