Kilkenny College students Clodagh Cassin, Alex McClure, David McClure, Freddie Dyer, Martin Mulhall and Matthew Cassin had great success competing over the summer period.
Clodagh Cassin was on the winning ladies’ canoe polo team at the All-Ireland Club Championships in Longford in July. David McClure and Matthew Cassin were on the Kilkenny Aqua Cats team that won the Dublin Docklands Division 2 competition in August, and they then went on to the Irish senior open in Galway on August 25 and 26.
In division 3, Clodagh Cassin, Martin Mulhall, Freddie Dyer and Matthew Cassin were part of an exciting team that went down to the wire against the host Galway team. Level at the final whistle, it took a “golden goal” situation (where the person who scores first wins) to separate the teams. Matthew Cassin scored the winning goal for the Aqua Kittens, a great result!
In division 2, again Kilkenny met Galway in the final. It was a repeat of the Division 3 final, going to golden goal again. David McClure scored the winning goal for the Aqua Cats, of which Matthew Cassin was also a member.
Finally, Clodagh Cassin also competed in the ladies’ division on the ‘Banba@ team. They won all of their matches and were crowned ladies champions. This rounded off a very successful week end for the Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club and Kilkenny College club members.
