CLEERES BAR MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RECORD - Cleeres Bar maintain their unbeaten record after 8 matches in Division 2 of the Kilkenny & District Floodlit league following two recent draws. Firstly, they drew 1-1 against OS United, as a Brendan Kenny equalising penalty rescued Cleeres having fallen behind to a free-kick during the first-half. Late on however, Niall Kennedy had to pull off a wonderful save to deny OS United victory, as Cleeres stayed top of the table by two points ahead of OS United. They followed that draw with a scoreless draw against Cross Celtic. Cleeres were in action last night against O’Brien’s butchers.
PRICELESS SKY IMPRESSES GREATLY - The Paul Hennessy trained Priceless Sky has been mightily impressive throughout the Irish St. Leger at Limerick Greyhound track so far, and last Saturday night, he produced a brilliant time of 29.44 seconds to run out an emphatic 7 length winner.Priceless Sky will be joined in the semi-finals this coming Saturday evening by his stable companion Droopys Comedian who finished 2nd in 29.91 seconds in heat 2 of the quarter-finals.Both dogs have been drawn together in the second semi-final this coming Saturday, with Priceless Sky drawn in trap 2 and Droopys Comedian drawn on the wide outside in trap 6.
GOWRAN COMMUNITY CULTURE AND HERITAGE PROJECT - This evening in the local parish hall, the project about Gowran Community Centre and Heritage ‘Celebrating Gowran’ will have meeting from 8pm onwards. The project is sponsored by Kilkenny Leadership Partnership and all are welcome to attend. Potential projects which were discussed at last meeting included various walks around the village, youth café, trail signage and signposting, a garden village and potential for future use of castle and grounds.
MONSTER BINGO - Next Sunday in Cillin Hill at 3pm, there will be a Monster Bingo taking place to raise funds for the parish finances. Books cost €15 and €20 with sheets costing €2 and €3.
CHRISTMAS - Christmas is just around the corner, and there are the usual annual events that occur around this time of the year. On Sunday 9th December, Santa makes his visit to the parish hall, while there is also a Cake Sale and Spinner on a busy day of activities. The following Sunday, one of the popular events on the social calendar takes place. The Senior Citizens Christmas Party commences at 1.30pm, and promises to be an entertaining afternoon of music, chat, dancing and entertainment with plenty of refreshments on offer also.
STOOK 10 MILE ROAD RACE - The Stook 10 Mile Road Race has received plenty of publicity over the past two months, and next Sunday, the 10 mile Road race gets underway from 12 noon. The race starts and finishes in Dungarvan church, and if you are interested in a walk or shorter run, there will be a 5KM dash/fun walk on the day also. Entry fee for the 10 mile road race is €20, and it’s €10 for the shorter event, with under-12s gaining entry free of charge. You can still register online at www.stook10.ie and you can register up until 11.30am so that runners and walkers have time to assemble as the race will start at 12 noon sharp. Donations of cakes for refreshments would be very much appreciated and can be dropped to organised houses or to the Hall in Dungarvan before 10am on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Ruth Kennedy performed superbly to finish 3rd place in the girls Under-13 Leinster Cross country-championships up in Dunboyne Co. Meath.
YOUNG IRELANDS CLUB JERSEYS - A club jersey is available to purchase for prepaid orders submitted on or before Friday 23rd November. Cost is €25 for various children’s sizes, €33 for 13/14 year olds and €36 for adult sizes.The jersey style and available sizes and order details can be seen on the club website www.youngirelands.gaa.ie under club merchandise. Club jersey and other club merchandise will be available to order at the start of the new season.
GOWRAN PANTOMIME SOCIETY - A meeting will be held in Gowran Parish Hall on Friday November 16th at 8pm for all Primary School Children from 1st to 6th class, and also for secondary school pupils who wish to take part in next years Pantomime. Registration for adults is on Friday week, 23rd November at 8pm also in the parish hall. The Pantomime itself takes place next February Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th.
