THE STUDENTS, staff and parents of Kilkenny College hosted a Spring Summer Fashion show, in the Newpark Hotel on Wednesday 23rd March. In doing so they packed the ballroom as those present were treated to displays from boutiques from Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare and Carlow.
Out front, the evening kicked off with entertainment provided by two School bands, Deleted Scenes and The College Jazz Band while those attending sampled the wine, cheese and chocolate on offer, as well as taking in the displays of arts and crafts from two local traders which added to the buzz of the evening.
The serious stuff got underway after an official welcome from Principal Ian Coombes, when Compere Faith Amond brought the lights down, the music up and the models out. The young men and women of Kilkenny College brought the house down with their enthusiasm for the event, and not just in modelling. The final clothes on show were designed by students, and under the theme of “Junk Couture” they were made from recycled materials, including one stunning item made from recycled milk cartons!
With only the raffle to complete, Mr Henry Yates, Chairman of the Kilkenny College Foundation, wrapped up the evening by thanking those present for their continuing support of the College, and informing them of the work of the Kilkenny College Development Foundation, for whom the evening was a fundraiser in aid of the College new building fund.
